Mental health is a funny thing. Earlier this year I received a diagnosis of extreme stress, anxiety, and moderate depression. It's been a year of ups and downs but I'm proud of my progress. However, that doesn't mean that I'm instantly cured. I still have my good and bad days, and today was rough for no reason, but I'm getting there.
When I was in my office earlier I looked up and saw Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh and Sadness from Inside Out, and I realised just how amazing it is to have characters like these teaching kids about mental health. I loved Winnie the Pooh when I was a kid and Eeyore was definitely one of my favourites. I loved that his friends never tried to change him and just accepted him for his good and bad days. Inside Out is great at teaching kids that it's possible to be more than one "feeling" at a time.
So, to those in the creative industries, please keep creating stories that matter, in all formats.
