2017 Goal Setting

As part of our teaching this year, we have been asked to identify two or more goals that we are going to work towards. I have decided to include my goals here:

Goal description:

  • Learning when and how to praise student work and effort.
  • To know the difference between praising work and effort.
  • To know how and when to provide opportunities for students to reflect upon own work and effort.
  • To provide opportunities for students to identify feedback, work with it, and improve.

Steps to achieving this goal:

  • Twilight Hours – in house PD:
    • Feedback
    • Differentiation 2
    • Questioning
  • Collegial observations focusing on the implementation of praise and feedback
  • Observations and discussions with teachers that have identified themselves or are identified as being proficient at this
  • Investigation of ICTs to make learning objectives/success criteria available to students
  • Actively searching for PD opportunities both within and outside the college that address this issue

Goal description:

  • Including learning goals at the beginning and end of every lesson.
  • Ensuring that students have the opportunity to reflect on learning and ask any remaining questions at the end of a lesson.

Steps to achieving this goal:

  • Twilight Hours – in house PD:
    • Feedback
    • Questioning
  • Collegial observations focusing on the implementation of learning goals and reflection questions at completion of lesson
  • Observations and discussions with teachers that have identified themselves or are identified as being proficient at this
  • Investigation of ICTs to make learning objectives/success criteria available to students
  • Actively searching for PD opportunities both within and outside the college that address this issue

Goal Description:

  • To extend students that have gift and provide specific opportunities for these gifted students to challenge themselves both inside and outside the classroom.

Steps to achieving this goal:

  • Twilight Hours – in house PD:
    • Feedback
    • Questioning
    • Differentiation 2
  • Actively searching for PD opportunities both within and outside the college that address this issue
  • Actively searching for professional reading and viewing
  • In house PD opportunity – Exceptional Learners Program
  • Providing opportunities for students that have gift to develop this through iCentre programs
